The Initiative commenced in 2002 when Lord Kinclaven was moved by a suggestion that more should be done to promote legal education in schools, and he came up with the idea of mock trials where pupils play all parts. Since 2002, thousands of pupils have learned about the justice system in Scotland and importantly had great fun doing so. The funding provided by the Foundation has recently facilitated the development of a new website for the Initiative as well as funding the successful 2019 MiniTrials event.
Lord Kinclaven has now stepped aside and placed the MiniTrials Initiative into the hands of a steering group, headed by Lord Mulholland. A reception was held at The Advocates Library to mark the passing on of the baton and this was attended by both the Foundation Chairman, John Fulton and Secretary, David Dunsire.
