The Foundation made an award to Abertay University to enable students to participate in International Law Week 2020, organised by the University College UC Leuven-Limberg in Belgium.

This annual event involved 11 partner institutions from different member states including Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Finland, The Netherlands, Mexico and Spain.  The University of Abertay was the only British institute involved in the week.

The primary purpose of the International Law Week is to research, discuss, compare and contrast different perspectives and ultimately present draft legislative amendments in an area of European law.  This event involved consideration of the much vaunted issue of GDPR.

The students benefitted from the event by learning about the way legislation is proposed, presented and debated in the European Parliament; they gained a greater understanding of the different political perspectives that exist within the European Parliament and how the negotiation between those perspectives can influence the enactment of legislation; and they were able to participate in written and oral presentations during the week.
